Default brake light

What causes the brake light to come on? All the sudden my brake light came on today. Does it mean I'm low on fluid or can it come on for other reasons?

Either low on brake fluid or the parking brake is pulled up alittle.

or one of the wires going to either one of those components has a problem. they are both ground signal circuits meaning if one of the wires or the connector touches bare metal it will turn on the light.

but 99% of the time Spikes answer will be correct!

Its weird because it only comes on when i'm at a stop. Does the oil light have a ground signal circuit as well? Both lights go on and off at idle.

Might be two different issues. There is a TSB on the oil pressure switch, because it would leak, and they can also cause the light to flash at idle. I never take the oil pressure light lightly though. I'd make sure there is pressure, or stop driving the car.

The brake light is probably fluid, if it comes on at a stop more often. As brake pads wear, the fluid level goes down (because the fluid is moving more into the calipers). When you press on the pedal to stop, the fluid is going to go down just a little bit more, as the rubber lines expand just slightly. If you are right on the edge of minimum fluid, the light will come on.

The oil psi switch has a single spade connector on it, make sure it is seated correctly and clean.
What oil are you using in it?

Maybe it's time to replace your pads? When your pads goes thin, then the sensor on your brake cylinder senses it and comes on!
