Default Brake Pads Knocking Clunking Fixed?

So for awhile now my front driver side pads have been knocking (sliding left and right slamming against the calipers) After some research I found that this is common because of the smaller after market pads or just pads without shims. Below are a couple links to a few pads that I think "might" work to solve this issue.

However today I thought I would just make my own and save the money (Free). This is not a daily driver but I will cruise about in it this year to test this fix. The reason I attempted this rather than just ordering some pads is because getting the right fit of pads and calipers could be a long enough task. The pads linked below have rubber backings so thats what I did

Possible Brake Pads to fix?

I just stuck some rubber to the back of my pads using an old rubber roof patch kit. (yes I cleaned the back of the pads first :P )

So far it works!

What are your thoughts on this?

Just saw this through another link. Never thought about that. Great detective work there.
