Default brakes too much -

i replaced my master brake cylinder unit (Autozone aftermarket) and now when the engine runs for a while the brakes start to engage without me pressing the pedal - pedal becomes stiff as a rock - when I turn the disco off, the brakes let loose. Details - 1997 disco SD - gas engine - could it be the booster or?

Aftermarket master cylinders do not work on these trucks - at least that's what a lot of people have said on this forum. I have not replaced mine yet, but I'm sure someone else with first hand experience will chime in.

I just replaced mine with one from autozone also, and have the exact same thing happening. What is the recommended fix if the autozone unit won't work. What brand should I look for, or where should I get one.

Thanks for the reply - - Interesting - TRW (master brake brand) claims the unit is as good or better than the original. I have a feeling it's not the master because when the engine is turned off. the issue goes away... I'm new so I am open to any suggestion.

Hi - If you had the same issues with this aftermarket part, we may be on to something - I may order a TRW brand unit from British Pacific on line - they are on the west coast so I should get the unit in a few days. it's about $100 more but if it's the right part, what can a person do??? Rovers cost money! LOL! thanks

There is a list of Rover Suppliers on a sticky Check it Out!

I look at Rover's North, Atlntic British and a limited number of others.

Of course we all know everything on the Internet is True, they are not allowed to put anything but the Truth on there... I read that on the Internet.

The brand that I got at autozone was Fenco, I believe. Napa can get an A1/Cardone, but has to be ordered and not much cheaper that ordering from British Pacific.

Any chance the older master was leaking into the booster?

I ordered a new master today - should be here in a few days - From what I have learned on this and other forums, I feel confident that this will resolve my issues - lesson learned - buy from a "Rovers only" parts house -

the connection between the reservoir and the master had a very bad leak - no fluid got into the booster. The brakes actually worked great but the constant flow of brake fluid was the issue.
