I know this is an old thread but I have one just like the one pictured. I can’t find any info on them either. I know I have never seen another one in person.

All 1998 Discovery 1’s have the rear window 50th Anniversary decal. I am intrigued by the ones that have a brass plate. Has there ever been any documented info on these to anyone’s knowledge? An original window sticker would be nice to see or an article talking about them.

Stillruns, I have owned my #32 for about five years now and have been looking far and wide for any info on the brass plate numbered 1998 models. The only real documented info that I have found is from the "Land Rover Discovery 1989-1998" written by James Taylor published in 1999. It was printed in Great Britain. This is a paper back book On page 79 of this book you will find the brass plate 1998 Discovery I's documented and pictured. 50 of these were sent to North America, US and Canada There is also a hard back book authored by James Taylor titled "Land Rover Discovery 25 Years of the Family 4 x 4" Printed in 2014. This book has a section on special models in Discovery history and on page 83 has the best documentation of the 1998 Brass Plate 50th Anniversary Edition, Quantity 50.

From what I have read nearly all 1998 models had the 50th Anniversary stickers but they were not true 50th Anniversary Edition Discovery I's but only the brass plate 1-50 models in Woodcote Green with yellow pinstriping and special nterior Hope this helps, Paul

What I am curious about is why they added these plaques to only 50 of the trucks. There is no difference in any of the 50 1998 Woodcote green with the plaques and the other 1998 Woodcote green ones. Other than the plaque itself and the adhesive lettering on the rear that says 50th Anniversary Edition. The color, wheels, interior leather seats and piping, exterior trim is all the same. No difference in motor or drivetrain. I still think they are fascinating because LR chose 50 to do. Maybe it was the first 50 produced in 1998 or maybe it was the last 50 produced. Who knows. I wonder where the other 49 are? Maybe the serial number will tell the tale. Having 1 of 50 of anything is rare and that in itself makes them special.

According to the James Taylor book the seat color and trim was different as well as floor mates with the big 50 on them. See my pictures above. The mirrors were body color and not black on these as well. Not sure about the non plaque models. I have never seen another Woodcote Green non plaque D1 but I think some here have said they exist.

I’m an idiot most days. They added the plaque to only 50 because of 1948-1998. Ok, now that I’ve admitted that lol. These were likely a special order truck or one that had to be bought early and by a select few. You could buy a 1998 LSE in Woodcote green and have almost identical trim as yours but like you have said and shown by your truck, there were only 50 sold with the plaque. That was a rare color and trim in itself but to have the plaque was certainly rare. To my knowledge, only the 98 LSE Woodcote greens had the TWR (Tom Woods Racing) wheels. Very desirable wheel that also came on some RRC’s. You may be a lone survivor of one of these. I hate to think that some of the others are in scrap yards or backyards somewhere.

I would sure like to find another one. AAHunt said he had #13 on a post in February 2018 but I never could get him to reply back to me and I do not know is location. I am just a 63 year old fan of these amazing Rovers. Makes you sharpen your mechanical skills to keep them going. Maybe I will find another one of these 50 one of these days. After all I made this post over 4 years ago. Someone out there has to know where there is a 50th Anniversary Edition hid away.
