Our Discovery has taken us to some amazing places and it has dragged four snow mobiles along. We've pulled vehicles down and up from places they should not have been. In 03' a guy's wife said to us on Mt St Helens "We always thought these were just for show" as we pulled his F-250 from the ditch. The plastic pieces brake, the windows rattle, and the headliner droops, but the old turds are built with love. Thanks for this site and the people of like mind who dwell here.

 

It has been a few years since he rode off into the sunset. And for every member like him we have thousands more who love these vehicles, warts and all.

 

once you get past the yuppie po neglect of the vehicle and the cooling system under control the rest is piddly stuff that most people can handle with parts easily and cheaply found in a u pull yard

 

I prefer to think of them as beauty marks !

 

my PO neglected things while he went to the Colonel, this sludge is baked on. I am putting the intake back on, and noticed that I could wire brush out the gunk buildup it was so thick. And I have done I think three SeaFoam cleaning since I bought it. If it runs when I get it back together, it will take the ECU a month to relearn all the adaptive values.

My point would be that an older Rover, poorly serviced, will not "clean up" with a couple of oil changes and a bottle of Wunda Wiz Snake Oil number 6. That deep fried stuff is staying there. But consider if you fried meat in a pan every day for same number of hours that Rover is driven, and never washed the pan.

 

I love my Mandy, I can't wait to put on the new springs and shocks I got her.

 

didn't you know, the reason these are so pricy new is cause they make em so you don't have to ever service them

I remember this thread... I also remember the day I started on this forum Mike offered to call me and help diagnose my misfire. Nice guy.

To this day my LR has not let me down. Starts every time. Doesn't get stuck. Looks pretty mean. Stinks. I get a free shower when I start fast and/or turn hard. Etc etc.

I drove this pig from St Louis to Augusta. While in Augusta, loaded it with 7 people and coolers and drove to Savannah almost every weekend with NO issues. Gas wasn't cheap and it got puked in twice, but still runs. Moved from St Louis to Maryland and drove it here loaded down with crap. No issues. I've had water flowing in the doors, self winched it from 36" of silt, and have even stood it on it's nose tackling too steep a hill. The biggest problem I've had has been the oil spots in my driveway. I even moved about 6 thousand pounds of weights (whole weightroom) about 45 miles. Bumper was draaaaaaaaaaaaagging.

Bottom line is you can't call a 13-14 year old truck junk if it hasn't been maintained. Mine was GARBAGE when I got it. Few hours later? Ready to roll.

 

I drive mine back and forth from n.j. to va and was doing it with 2 leaking head gaskets, one place I worked in va was a training center where I had to run weapons between the ranges and vault driving their " unimproved off road course" through the woods to do it and I guess from my thread you can see I intend to have fun, yes it does get old working on it cause it seems everything wore out at the same time but with some tlc and patience guess in the end it is worth it
