A/C turns off Periodically
Once in a great while my A/C will just turn off for a second or two and then comes right back on - it might happen more when the fan is on high - any guesses as why this happens ?
On mine it was the fan switch. If I wiggled it the fan would turn back on, I could hear the relay in the passenger side kick panel click and the ac would kick on again. I replaced it a few years back with a rear fan switch I picked up at the boneyard. This one is now getting flaky, so It's time to swap it out again.
I actually got lucky and picked up an entire climate control box for $30 including all switches. I just need to find a decent plastic dash surround/support and then I'll swap it all out.
I hate doing anything to the dash area. The plastic is so old and crumbly, something breaks every time I work on it.

Just an FYI if you need a new snowflake switch (enables Compressor) or a new blower slider switch find yourself any year D2 with rear AC and get the entire switch pack. The Rear AC On/Off switch = identical to D1 Snowflake switch minus cover which you can swap, then D2 blower selector is identical to D1 blower speed selector switch.
i had the same happen on my '96 Discovery but almost exclusively when the fan blower was on high speed. i remember reading on here or DiscoWeb that it was related to a relay overheating and cutting out momentarily. there was a fix, but, of course, i don't remember what it was.
Probably not a relay. If a relay overheated, it would keep working until it finally burned up, not cut out briefly. More likely is a problem with the switch itself. Perhaps pushed a bit beyond the 4 position, higher current could melt the edge of the contact a bit. Those fan switches are sloppy, hard to position correctly. I would look at the switch itself.
