Default Can I change the keyfobs and ecu on 98 Disco

Hi, I have a new ecu (?) and keyfobs for a 98 Disco parts truck. Can I replace the non-working old ones with them? I looked around and did not find anything about doing this, it's late and i have pounding headache so I might have missed something in my Googling hehe.

Thanks.
Glen

Not unless you have a scanner capable of synching the ECU with the alarm unit and the fobs with the alarm unit. You can swap the ECU and fobs right over if you have the AS10 alarm unit that is already mated to them. If not there is a good chance it will start once, and only once, or lock you out completely and then not even work with the old ECU until you have them resynched. GEMS trucks are funny that way.

What is currently wrong with the ECU in the truck?

The current ecu has nothing wrong with it but I was hoping to avoid the stealers price for reprogramming the new keyfob I bought. Some of us Land Rover owners are cheap

Yeah, that's not going to be happening. You would be better off checking with Paul Grant to see if he has an ECU/ AS10 alarm/keyfobs set to sell you.

The fobs alone are expensive, then you have the added cost of synching them with the alarm unit. You could leave the present ECU and AS10 alarm unit and have fobs synched to it, but it's probably cheaper to buy a complete set already mated and swap out all of them at the same time and be good to go.

Did your fob die, or did you nor have a fob? The solder joint on the back of the battery holder clip is a common cause for fob failure, 5 minute fix if that is all that happened.

To replace a ECU or BCU, you need to either buy them both used, so they are still synched or replace either and pay the dealer the Big Bucks to reprogram them so the will communicate and allow the truck to start.

Thanks for the information. Need to go though all the brains that came out of the truck, there's quite a few of them.
