I have heard you can if you change the fenders to 03 or 04 fenders. But I'm not sure the body lines are the same.

You can put 99-2002 D2 headlights on your 97. They are not as fancy, but have black around the outer edge. Both my D1s have the early D2 headlights.

You can do it but its a big pain in the butt, and I believe there's no going back. A google search should turn up something.

It is doable by just making upper brackets for the housings iirc there is a thread with pics showing the conversion, no changing fenders was needed

Issue is those housings are like $400 each and hard to find good used

The standard d2 are a nice direct fit upgrade they are on mine check my thread

Yes but it's lots of cutting and the fit and finish depends on your skill. Those headlights are expensive and plastic anyways.

I, for one, like the glass better. On d2 (not d1) I went from glass to new plastic.....I like the old better.....more rugged looking

I know for a fact that it's possible, I have a friend who's got '03 headlights on a mid-1990s Disco. But it's not plug and play, there is some dremeling involved and also they will need to be re-wired. I had a similar conversion done on a D2 back in the day, and those headlights were never a very tight fit against the fender, so it all looked kinda sloppy, but that was probably just done incorrectly. Plus the headlights from eBay had some tabs broken off.

Mine are fine. I have a city bulb out in one that I need to replace.
