CB / Ham / Fire / Satellite Radio install
Im trying to ideas on where to install a CB and or other radio. Anyone have any tips or tricks, or photos of their installs? my past vehicles have all been column shift with a huge vacant area over the transmission hump. Looking to see what others have done.
Thanks for the input

I have my 10m radio behind the console. Seemed to be the only spot that it fit nice, I just cant fold the rear seats down without removing it though.
As far as my Sat radio I just use the suction cup on the windsheild but I remember someone mounted theres under the cupholders just in front of the CDL shifter.

I mounted a samll CB on the dash. There is lots of room at the windsheild to run the wireing with out it showing. I'll try to rememeber to post a pick after work.

got the satellite radio secured, i didnt like using the vent mount so i got a little creative with that void above the ashtray (whats that supposed to be anyway?) i think for my next trick im gonna try to separate that goofy fold out cup holder from the bottom trim frame and use that dead space to snuggle in a small cb or ham radio.
I mounted my cb to the side of the center console. There is a convenient emply plug in the right rear quarter underneath to run the antenna cable.

I ran the antenna cable under the carpet from the right rear quarter to the center console by the glove box. tapped power to a hot lead, that way if I have a electrical failure with the vehicle I still have a live CB.
There is a ground on the steering column if you look up at the instrument cluster next to the center console.
Antenna shot:

Not sure about where you live but in colorado there are alot of trees trying to steal your antenna. Mine is spring mounted.

HEy... I meant to post a few pics of the idea I had but forgot all about this thread... For a CB or SW rig you can also mount it up between the sun visors. Unless you have option features that take up space on the visor trim for homelink and ather stuff. In this spot it is pretty much out of the way and really no chance of hitting it during an impact or accidentally.

I just replaced the two short sheet screws (say that 5 times fast) with long (forgot the length) machine screws and made up the white aluminum bracket you see. When it is mounted there the power cord and coax can be simply run throuth the opening made when you remove the plastic cover up there in the center of the visor moulding, above the headliner and down through one of the pillar covers. Plus the built in speaker is pretty much right in your face so no need to run an aux speaker since it is loud and not muffled. Plus, I didn't have to put any additional holes in my interior!!
It is very sturdy and makes it possible to have a very short coax run to the antena, which I mounted on my rack. This location idea was brought to you by "Beer"...I thought of a scenario... one of those worst case type scenarios, if you get stuck in deep water and stall... when the interior floods the radio is still up high and dry to call for help.

Cosmic, I like the location (and the logic)! That is where I have always mounted my radios in my drivers, typically GM 3/4 tons. On my Disco though, I have the Sunroof switches up there. I love that I actually have a reason to use a cb, and that others are creative and put effort into their mounting and antenna placement. My wife thinks I watch to much Dukes of Hazard and just looks at me funny! Great Pics. I promised but never remeber when I get home.
