Code 1313 and 1314 Help!
Hello Rover-gods:
I have twice had my rover (97 disco SE) suddenly stop when I have stopped and am pulling out of a parking lot. I had to have a jump about two weeks ago and then had my battery tested to see if it was ok. Auto place said I needed new battery. Battery was old so I thought fine I will. The car stopped again about 10 days after buying battery. Took rover to same auto place Orielly's auto store and they said the battery was working fine. I had also added some "heat" to take water out of gas if that might have been part of problem when I bought the battery. Wanted to cover all possibilities.
Car actually shuts off and I can restart. I pulled mat away from pedals to make sure that wasn't issue.
Auto place read codes as follows:
p1314 Code Def: Misfire Catalyst damage fault bank B
p1313 Misfire catalyst Damage Fault Bank A
Also P3999 not defined.
Any ideas?
Thanks, Klandrover

Your overall description of the motor's behavior is about has helpful as a bb gun is to a charging hippo. Nothing like a frontal attack to the frontal lobes.
P3999 is a software glitch in LR's code. Did they clear the CEL's for you?
How does this vehicle idle? Like crap or smoothly? Do you know where your Idle Air Control Solenoid is? Have you cleaned it? Do you have a copy of the Rave? Do you own hand tools to work on your truck? Are you able to get your hands dirty or is there an aversion to such things? Spark plugs and wires changed.....ever?
So you bought a battery that you needed, hooray? Don't buy anything until this problem is more fleshed out.

Wow! Are you having a bad day? I am a woman with a Traumatic Brain Injury from a car accident. Sometimes I don't thing I explain things as well as I used to due to this issue. Why not just ask me questions. My Brother in Law was killed in October by a inattentive driver and he was my mechanic. I ask a lot of people here to work on my car no one returns my calls beyond the expensive dealership. I have written this forum twice before and all were helpful. If you don't like a post don't respond. It runs ... fine normally just two times to cut out. I just did not want to be stranded somewhere. I will figure it out. Won't write here again.
I've been through three wars starting with Desert Storm. Your unfortunate situation does not trump where and what I've done and witnessed. I wish I could give you the simple aroma of war. You'd avoid one favorite summer pastime if you could.
I have a sense of humor for a reason, figure out why and I'll let you think your winning........promise.
I've seen females hold their own better than their male counterparts plus hold off their male counterparts advances. There should be a medal for that.
You and I might be good buddies because I'd have you rolling on the floor. I treat everyone the same way, quick wit and a grin. I don't care if you have a condition, I wouldn't see it even if I was standing right in front of you. Why should I, don't you think that would be patronizing? You are still you with or without.
So we have something in common, a Rover. Yours is acting up, mine isn't. What should we do about that? I did ask you a bunch of questions.
Quit now and you'll not figure me out.....

kland.....it sounds like the rover may just need a good tune up.....plugs, plug wires, fuel filter, throttle body cleaning...there are several things that could make it just "quit" , let us know what HAS been done to the vehicle so that we can help a little better....
Just keep posting about this and don't be turned away by internet personalities. I need the answer you come up with because I have a similar thing going on with my '98. Same codes. I've done some of the troubleshooting mentioned by others and came up short of a full explanation. You'll probably have to go through the same steps yourself.
I thought about water in the gas too because I had just filled it up with Premium from 7-eleven prior to the problems (was on a road trip). I drained from 20 gallons down to less than 5 and refilled (added 20 gal) of Chevron premium. The problem seems to have gone way down in frequency but when it happens (misfires) it happens just as bad as ever and the car will hardly move forward. Of course, when it's running perfectly, it's great, but hard to troubleshoot.
I'm not meaning to hijack the thread, but encourage you to follow along the questions and advice already mentioned.

Let me ask in this sequence -
If you say stops, does that mean the engine quits running while driving and moving; or does this happen when you have parked and switch off the engine, and it won't re-crank right away?
If it stops while running and driving, some of the popular things are fuel filter plugged up (it is under right rear wheel well, and if you ever changed it yourself you will remember it); fuel pressure regulator loss of vacuum (small six inch rubber hose at driver side of engine intake on the rear); the vehicle speed sensor - which when it goes bad can tell engine computer you are driving too fast (114 mph or so) and the ECU will start shutting down cylinders. Of course there is always spark plugs, their wires, and the coils they attach to. And electrical conections to sensors like the MAF.
If it cuts off and won't restart until enough time has passed for the engine to cool slightly, the crank position sensor could be suspect.
Misfire codes are routinely caused by plugs and wires. And that alone, if severe, can make a truck go dead. Replacement plug wires should be high grade silicone 8mm size cables.
