Considering an 04
What did something like that cost you?
I worked in Florida when they started their lottery. I used to tell people that if I hit the big one that I would take them all fishing, but they would all have to be back way before me, so I was including their rfeturn trip home as part of the offer.
If I were going to look for a 04 today, I'd find one with a boat anchor for an engine already (pay pennies for it) and drop a new Turner Engineering engine into it...because I'd plan on keeping it for a long, long time. I've seen very good condition 03-04's with crap for engines go for 3-4k. 6k or less if you drop it in yourself for a new Turner, and you're at 9k anyways without a ticking time bomb!
That's been my biggest reservation on getting an '04. Even though they straigneted out the oil pump thing from the '03's, I have heard horror stories of the '04's grenading engines without warning, and yet some have gotten many, many thousands of trouble free miles. I just don't know if I wanna take that gamble.
