Default Considering new tires, rims and lift..... Wanted to know what everyone else has.

Hey all

I am considering new tires, rims and lift. Truck is currently stock now. I wanted to know what everyone else is running in hopes that it will help me make my decision.

I am considering the following, but really not sure:

BF Goodrich all terrains
16 x 8 steel wheels from OKoffroad
Terafirma 2 inch lift (TF202)

What I would like to know is:

What tire and size are you running ?
What rims and size are you running ?
Do you have a lift and if so how much?
Did you need to cut the body for your set up ?
Do you mostly drive your truck on (daily driver) or off road ?
Did you need to change your diff gears or drive shafts for your set up ?
If you had to do your set up again would you buy the same thing or something else?

Thanks !

Tell us what YOU want to do with the truck. What is the goal?
I have 3 D1's and each has a different lift.
- '98 has 3' RTE springs, Fox 12" shocks, 315/75/16 mud tires, lockers and 4.12 gears

- '96 has 2" OME springs, Bilstein Yellow/blue shocks, 235/85/16 AT tires, stock diffs/gears

- '95 has 2-3" Big Blue springs, Pro Comp shocks, 265/70/16 AT tires, stock diffs/gears

I only wheel the '98 and its a beast. The '96 was lightly wheeled in a past life and did ok, has better road manners than the '98.

My truck i run 50/50 on and off road. Grocery getter. Evening desert fun toy. Errand wagon on the weekends and eves.

I run a 10 ply 245/75/16 General Grabber AT2. I do not like running mud tires for my amount of on road driving.I regret not going with a taller tire. I could really use the ground clearance. I do love the tire. I initially ran it at 50 psi but now I run at 30-32 for ride smoothness and traction off road traction.
I run the stock alloy wheels. I never had a problem but I would probably run a set of steel wheels if given the opportunity.
I have 2" HD Terrarfirma lift. Which actually lifted it almost 3 inches. I Initially ran a front winch bumper and a roof rack so I wanted the HD lift to compensate for the weight. But now with those gone it rides stiff. So make sure of your future plans before you decide on a lift.

No cutting or mods done body wise. I have the front sway bar disconnected to aid flex.

Steel wheels look cool but don't do much else.
Pros: Can be "easily" welded if they crack
Can usually be pounded out WHEN they dent

Cons: Heavier than stock alloy
Don't hold a bead as well as stock alloy(This is important offroad!)

The stock Rover alloy does a tremendous job of holding a bead even at lower pressures. Far better than any steel wheel short of true beadlocks.
I would save your money and buy diff gaurds, HD steering rods, good shocks, do maintenance, whatever.

Tires: There are better options than the BFG AT. Its a good tire but the tread pattern is old and I would say inferior to others. The Goodyear DuraTrac is a GREAT AT tire. Much more aggressive than the BFG, handles better in pretty much all conditions, and has great wear. My set still had 60% tread life left when I sold them with 30,000 miles. I bought mud tires.

What tire and size are you running ? 235/85 Duratrac
What rims and size are you running ? 16 inch steel Wolfs
Do you have a lift and if so how much? 2inch TF ProSport Medium
Did you need to cut the body for your set up ? No
Do you mostly drive your truck on (daily driver) or off road ? 50/50
Did you need to change your diff gears or drive shafts for your set up ? Don't have to, but will benefit from re-gear/axle
If you had to do your set up again would you buy the same thing or something else? I'd use TF light load springs, otherwise great for me

2" lift with OME springs and longer shocks
Range Rover 16" wheels
245/75-16 Goodyear Wrangler Authority tires from WalMart (great tire!)
no cutting of any bodywork, but fronts rub something at full lock

3" Rte Springs, 315/75r16 Cooper STT, Ashcroft 4.12 gears detroit/trtruetrac, procomp steel wheels. Definitely don't DD it. I much prefer steel wheels. Better back spacing, wider options, looks better really easy to weld beadlock rings on and the you can air down to single digits. My body is fairly well hacked up too. Not really necessary but it doesn't bother me.
