One thing I did with mine that has helped was taking an air compressor and thoroughly blowing out the dried up red mud where the PO had apparently been offroading in some water and mud.

Blowing from inside the hood thru the rad, it looked like a Sahara Sand Storm for a good half hour. Mine was showing signs of being rode hard and put up wet when I first bought it.

I have gone to some extremes with it but it keeps getting better and better with every major accomplishment. I removed that nasty underhood blanket and did lots of cleaning with Mean Green and rags as i worked my way thru the issues.

A broken fan is never a good sign, it cannot work properly with unbalanced blades and will self destruct eventually. The fragments can do additional damage as well.

Did you see the Utube video of an idiot that rebuilt a TransAm, the one that is like a corvette running gear. He was doing a burnout right after completion when the clutch shattered and cut right thru and fragments lodged in various places some even inside the vehicle in the dashboard.

I have not seen the video but I am not surprised.I have been in the auto industry in one form or another for 20 years and I am amazed at some of the things I have witnessed.Just when you think you have seen it all someone will do something that will make you scratch your head and ask "What were they thinking?"

The unbalanced fan is bad news. Best to swap it ASAP, the same fan seems to be used by some variations of Rovers, be sure cupped side of blades go toward engine. Usually about $10 at the salvage yard, where you can learn at your own pace on some one else's chassis at no extra charge. Also, if your existing clutch has oil smudge on the center, it could be leaking fluid, might want to check this forum for a Chevy $50 replacement clutch.

Update..I did a compression test on the engine and the cylinders were all 145-150 lbs.I also refiled the cooling system after replacing the freeze plug and it looks as though the rear most exterior head bolt on the drivers side is weeping coolant. The engine does run good and there is no mixing of oil and coolant. Are the outside head bolts open to the water jackets?
