Crankshaft Postion Sensor Mount Flopping Around
As the title suggests, my crankshaft position sensor and bracket is flopping around.
How is the bracket / mount attached to the block? I have seen a couple pics online where it is welded.
Made an awesome video.
Behold!!!

The two bolts attach to a plate that is tack welded to the block. I wondered if this would ever happen when I saw that during my rebuild. Its bad news for you I'm afraid because it means that plate has to be welded back in place with the right alignment. I think the engine is going to have to be pulled for this. I can't think of another way to do it or get it done.
WaltNYC the D2 is not the exact same as the D1 as the heat shield is different and the bolts go through the heat sheild and the sensor and there is threads behind the plate those bolts go into. It looks like the issue he is having is that the plate the bolts go into has come loose.

Crunkgringo, yeah, I was afraid of that.
Walt, this is what it looks like on the '96-'98 D1. I believe some of the '99's have the later (D2) style.
Was hoping that the wee little ear was threaded and a fastener sinched it up from the front (sensor) side. Doesn't seem to be. Probably a roll pin at best.
I have no idea how it was running.
Backside of the crankshaft position sensor bracket. Faces the reluctor ring.
Thanks to xathor for this picture.

ihscouts,
Well, after bitchin' to anyone who would listen during happy hour at my local watering hole for a couple of days, gonna don my liftin' britches and jerk the motor out of there. While I'm at it, recon I'll drop the transfer case and trans. Tinker on those as well.
Head, valve cover, valley, manifold, & t.c. gaskets all leak to some extent. T.C. needs some attention inside. Clean up some wiring concerns. Look for that noisy lifter.
So, Ol' Reggie will be on injured reserve for a spell and I'll be gettin' reacquainted with Wilson, my '05 Ranger with a '07 engine.
Have space at the shop to work in (company moved to a location that suits our needs much better). Going on a trailer tonight and drug to the shop tomorrow morning. Wife wants her garage space back.
I'll take pictures, if I remember to.
