Default D1 94-99 14CUX/GEMS Belt Tensioner:

I'm not sure if anyone is aware of the D1 Belt Tensioner being very $$$ vs other Belt Tensioners out there. On my 97 XD I found it pretty weak and in need of replacement after all these years. I didn't want to pay 100.00-150.00 for it, so I had a friend grab me one off of a 97 P38 at the local LKQ. It had the wrong pulley on it from a P38 and that was fine, but that got me thinking. I went onto Rock Auto's website to compare P/N's and sure enough it's the same tensioner unit as P38/D2's except it comes with a grooved pulley vs smooth on the 94-99 D1. Well you can get a brand new pulley at Auto Zone P/N: 231081 for 20.00 or a Dayco 89006 from Rock Auto for 13.38.

So instead of paying 100.00-150.00 for a D1 94-99 Belt Tensioner you can get the complete Dayco 89287 from a P38/D2 for 38.99 then swap out the pulley for a Dayco 89006 for 13.38 and have $$ left over.

Must be a US thing. LRDirect has them at $31.77, $47.44, $47.01, $42.36, and $150.22 for Genuine.

Yep it must be, I looked it up on Rock Auto & was like no way! Once I figured out the only difference was the darn pulley = D2 unit for 40.00 & 13.00 pulley is the way to go for a local pickup.
