D1 wont shift into overdrive
Not sure if you are planning on having it rebuilt instead of a junkyard swap but if so, consider ordering one from Ashcroft in the UK. Even with shipping it was cheaper than having a local transmission shop do a rebuild. At least that was my situation before I remedied the problem.
$250 was the average going rate a few years back for a used ZF. I found one at my favorite breakers for $450, off a 96. I used to have a bunch of bookmarks on the ZF but deleted most of em, here's one for a 24 - DIY rebuild your 4HP24 thread X2 on Paul, if nothing else he can steer ya or enlighten ya. What about a manual trans, it's not like it's a daily.

D2's run a different trans that's controlled electronically. Ashcroft makes a separate controller to run a D2 trans in a D1(I know a guy that's done it) but it seems like a huge pain. I think you'd be money and headache ahead just to find a used D1 trans.
Yup would prefer the auto box myself off road
