d2 alternator on d1 ?
IT sounds stupid but check the belt pattern. If it is not correct the alt will not get enough spin.
This is what makes me ask why you still own a Rover? Damn good question! So why do you still own a Rover Tom?
I am pretty sure It is routed correct had the page in front of me when I installed it after the hg job, also I had it wrong once and belt squealed alot, but will check again
I have no idea why I keep this thing, I have built vehicles from bare frames and fabbed my own wire harnesses, never had as much problem as this vehicle, maybe it is the challenge

Dude, I split a crank pulley when I had a stuck open injector, the motor was running imbalanced and cracked the neck on the pulley and wiped out the front cover oil seal. I had oil covering the front of my boots. I swore I'd sell the thing right then. I had a helluva time finding a good used crank pulley for cheap. Will Tillery had one sent to me next day for $30 bucks flat. I have also bought from Paul Grant in the past. In both cases the parts I received where excellent condition, little used and it showed. That's when I decided to stick with Rovers. It's dedicated owners that keeping my truck from getting parked. I've gone four years virtually pain free. It's become the most reliable if not ugly vehicle I've ever owned......I hate the back end.....looks like a hippo supported by skinny stick legs (235 70 R16s). It's the drivers view and the way they plow through snow that makes all the difference besides having made a ton of contacts in five years. So hang in there, it might hit you too one day.....
As far as the alternator mine has lasted 170k and I just swapped it out with my spare rebuilt by Precision which I snagged off a customers second truck that he was sending to the crusher. It's off a 95 Disco 3.9. Now my original alternator is sitting on the bench and I'll rebuild it myself when I get the parts together. That is my next project......something to do.
Well I keep telling myself just a little more to replace and it will be a good rig for a long time but when stupid things go bad or the same parts keep refailing it gets discouraging and hurts my wallet big time
Wanted this to be the family car we can camp trailride and road trip instead it's like a boat, always needs work
If i was unable to do the work and get parts cheap from u pull and such this would have been gone long ago

I bought a brand new RRC 7 groove pulley alt off of e-bay 2? years ago, $150 shipped, 150 amp, works great.
I've been having bearing noise with it for the last 6 months because I went wading this spring during our 100 year flood and got water in the alt, still works fine, just whines alittle.

It's good to see your occasionally coming back Spike.....seriously. I need a rest.
Do you know if that alternator (150A) came off a 4.2 RRC?
By the way there is a guy up here parting out his 97 on nmi cl, I've got dibs on the Expedition lift already and he's agreed to let me cut out his foot wells before he scraps it out. 30k on rebuilt motor and he's a certified mechanic. I'll find out more as we yak through cl.

I need a hobby Doug, so I'm back causing trouble, caring less about feelings and politics and just giving some half @ssed advice.
All the RRC's use the 150A alt so I have no idea if it was the 4.2 or the 3.9, its the pulley you need to watch out for, the later RRC's use a 7-groove pulley (serp belt) and the early ones use a V-belt, I suppose a guy could swap pulleys from him DI alt to the RRC alt.
Find out how much he wants for the cruise pump, power steering pump and the MAF and let me know.
If you want to know the kind of trouble I'm causing check out the cold weather thread in the modification section.
