Rust? I dont see no sticking rust.

Thats not rust, thats crayon.

 

Purchased a bottle of Naval Jelly from my local ACE, applied, let sit 10 minutes, rinsed off, dried, spot of primer, a messy job of matching paint (Willow Green) in a pen, and done.

There was a small chip in the paint on the outer part of the hinge, which is what was rusting. It was a very small amount of surface rust, so maybe it won't come back (I can dream, right?).

I'll buff it out later, but for now it's good.

 

Wow, the things that pass for rust now days.. lol. I once had a Grand Prix that I could pull stuff out of the trunk through the hole in the quarter panel ;-P

 

there was a guy I used to work with who had an old 70s Pontioldsmobuick,
and the tops of the doors were so rusted out, when we got back from lunch we'd toss our garbage in his doors.
he didn't notice for a while. when he finally did he used that aluminum tape
to patch up the hole(s) (more like a 2 1/2 foot by 3 inch wide rust gash).
then we had to peel back the tape to get rid of our paper waste.

He finally took an air nibbler and gut 80% of the door skin off...

He found it as funny as we did. When you live in Buffalo you develop a thick skin.


Similar to when people would toss cups, wrappers, ping pong *****, yes, ping pong *****,
into my VW's "Stinger" exhaust. start it up and all kinds of stuff would shoot out of it.
like a low powered garbage cannon.

Or, when I got an "Illegal Dumping" ticket on the New York State Thruway after the sliding
door fell off of my 71 VW Bus at 55 mph. I decided that it was best off on the side of the road.
The State Trooper who wrote me the ticket disagreed. I tried my best to deny it, but,
blue/white door on the side of the Thruway that matched my bus, and just happened to be the
same exact door I was missing, was too much of a co-inky-dink for the Trooper.

 

Heh, heh...yeah, well I guess I suffer from rust anxiety. I see surface rust, and my heart rate elevates.

Now, if I were to post some pictures of the shell of my 1960 Bugeye Sprite, then we could talk about REAL rust. In fact, on my lunch break I discovered another PO patch job that popped right out with the light tap of a ball peen hammer. Nice golf-ball-size hole in the passenger door pillar. Sigh...

Good thing I'm taking a welding class in March!
