At the advice of ihscouts, I ordered a replacement ECU from Will Tillery earlier this week (thank you for the advice). After removing and inspecting the Crank Position Sensor a couple of weeks ago and with the understanding that my symptoms could be related to a bad sensor (even though it was just replaced 6 months ago), I also ordered a replacement sensor (from AutoZone). The sensor arrived last week. I am expecting the ECU this week.
I removed and replaced the existing sensor and there was no change to the current problem. Still no power to the fuel pump in Position 2 and my code reader still won't connect. Sufice it to say, the problem is not with the sensor, even though it appeared to have some damage (see photo below).
Anticipating the arrival of the new ECU this week, I went ahead and removed my existing ECU and reinspected the wiring and connections. As discussed in previous posts, I have recently observed some badly cracked and/or missing wire insulation and thus have been paying much closer attention to the wiring. Overall it appears that the main control wire harness appears to be in pretty rough shape as there are several areas that appear to have been spliced or worked on prior to my buying the vehicle.
When I disconnected the ECU I found what appears to be a broken pin on the ECU (see below)
After matching up the female end I managed to find the missing pin, which was broken off after having been wedged between the plastic and the wire connector.
I guess we'll find out if this is the problem when the new ECU arrives this week.
In the meantime, based on the photos above, does it appear that the female connector is in a serviceable condition? If no, can I replace only the female connector? How big of a pain in the *** it it to replace the entire engine control wiring harness?

Good job finding that malfunction junction. If by chance that is the problem keep the replacement ECU around for awhile, you might just need it looking at your wiring.
Honestly it's not all that difficult if you can find a direct replacement. Painless might have a harness. I found this real quick which gives you an idea of what you can do; http://delphi.com/docs/default-sourc...aster&sfvrsn=0
In a pinch I would butt connector all the wires individually and shrink tube each one to keep moisture out. There's enough slop on the loom to take up a few inches of fresh wire to wire connections. You know, I just figured out that's the connector to the ECU, I'm an idiot, you can't do what I just suggested.......sheesh.

Just a quick thought, might be able to temp fix that broken pin by removing the ECU covers, withdrawing that one circuit board lead and soldering the pin back on. If it where mine I'd be looking at the options with covers off to see what I could do since I know I have another ECU coming. If I had a junk one here I'd be on it to see what I could do with it......... Shiftonthefly lives in Lost Wages, he might have or can source another decent ECU connector for you.... or give Will another shout to see if he can snag both of em for ya.
I have the connectors available from my 98 parts truck if you need then...just pm me...I'm pretty sure the connectors are good....the ecu is junk though...lol
