Diff lock light on, horrible grinding noise

If I can get it moving long enough to get home I'll take the console apart and do the whole thing properly.

Silly truck, why did you just pretend you were working?

try disconnecting the linkage and manually rotating it with a wrench from below. that'll also tell you where the problem is if that works.

There is another thread on here that was just recently doe by Pinkytoe about his CDL. Look at it. There is a picture of the part you need to manually rotate to lock the center diff.

This may help. It is a view of the transfer case from the perspective of the driver's side (U.S.). This one happens to be changed via air locker but the twisting action of the top 'nut' is the same. You can see the output flange to the front drive shaft with the four bolts on it.

I think the sound must be the front axle tearing itself to pieces. I pulled the link on the diff lock and manually set it to lock and babied it home. Looks like I've got a bigger problem than just the differential.
