Brother Shifty, his username is all caps, what more do you need? The fact that he couldn't figure out the motor was a sludge rocket without removing a valve cover said all I needed. Perfect head gaskets too.....LOL!!!

Hey, knock knock, anyone home, your push rods ARE mushroomed. Nice pics.

Brave is what brave does and I'll tell you what brother USNAVYORNANCE post this thread (and username) to Dweb or Pirate and see how far you get without someone immediately calling bs to your so called skills.

So far you've only started to **** everyone off with your ignorant arrogance, nothing much else. How about responding in kind to others here, they know Rovers better than you, way better.

I just passed 20 years, headed to 26 with three deployments, you think you rile me? LOL!!!!! Phew......yeah. Ordnance - lowest scores on the ASVAB.

Never stated I knew more than anyone on here. Hence why I ask for advice... as for the ignorant arrogance, your insecurities should not be posted on the Web brother ihscout. Not my problem or concern if someone like you has their panties bunched. ZERO ****S GIVEN! Find some other thread to bash on. Slack jaw should've been your screen name. You may post again but only if you behave.

BTW, that's cute. 3 deployments... LMMFAO!

If you are here for advice take the advice , there is a reason it is given, THIS IS NOT A Chevy or ford it an over priced pos , stuff bends, breaks, wears out etc that should not

If guys here say get the heads checked there is a reason
Buy new push rods there's a reason
New head bolts there's a reason

We have been there, you don't want to listen to advice, act stubborn cause you know better, do the job 2 times, I have better things to do than a head gasket job 2 times

Be glad its not a d2, you would probly need to drill and pin the cylinders, this engine is I guess adequite but realistic it is **** compared to a USA one, comparing them is like apples and bolts

Owning one of these is a challenge at times to say the least, either you are up for it or go buy a jeep

If this rig gives me too many temperamental issues and will act up for a thousands of an inch or any other dumb shyt I hear complaints about, I'll take it out to the desert and blow it up. Simple enough. Just a toy for me

Nice attitude. I guess Gentleman are a dying breed.

As far as the truck goes, Tom is absolutely correct. If you want a truck any dummy can work on in Walmart parking lot this isn't it. If you aren't in love with it for what it is get a Chevy. Its not designed to be worked on half ***. It will require good parts and good workmanship. If that's too much effort get something else.
I for one have tried the bellybutton trucks and the not so bellybutton trucks. I've had 4 IH Scouts, 3 box Suburbans, 2 round body Suburbans, a few Broncos, a few Toyotas, and a few jeeps. Lots and lots of hot rods. Yet I'm still here. I'm aware it takes a bit of intelligence to maintain one of these. I keep coming back to Land Rover because I love the trucks. I get pissed at some of the fragility sometimes too. Coming on here with your attitude sucks. This is a great resource. Bunch of nice guys here wanting and willing to help. Most people are greatful for the advice and man up to not knowing everything.

Okay okay! I'll get the heads checked. Geeez.... My apologies for coming off that way. I don't take kind to strangers calling me out (or anyone at that). You guys are the rover enthusiasts and know the ins and outs of these rigs. As for the head bolts being replaced, thats a given. The rods don't look mushroomed to me but I'll ask the machine shop tech what they think. Got the rockers, push rods and valve covers all cleaned up. I let them sit in a tray of gas for a day and all the gunk/caked on oil shyt came right off. Gonna degrease the heads before taking them in and also cleaning up the block. I also ordered a new GM style radiator (different thread). Only $62 online! The one I ordered has EOC & TOC fittings and is used on their 1500/2500 series trucks. Measures 28x17(core) and has a total measurement of 34x19.5. This will clear under the hood. I'm pulling the bottom mounts off the old rad and fitting them on to the new one along with the top mounts.

Fair enough... I noticed a lot of hostility against newcomers when I first showed up too..

But the advice I have gotten here has well been worth the newbie hazing give it a month or so it'll pass.

Just try to remember you are asking for advice, nothing bugs people more than being asked for help and getting ignored. my 2c

Haha. Thanks. Yeah the hazing I don't mind, as long as who's dishing it can take it... Active duty military for the last 15 years. Walk in the park with you brit rig lovers.. I will take advise within reason but help and advise are two different animals. My sincere apologies to whomever I offended.

It's no biggie, you just need to know we are not being smart asses we just been there and on this brand a few extra $ while its apart will save you from doing it over, this should be as straight forward as any other but rovers in general have their eccentricities

Advice, have them pressure test the heads its not to common but they can leak

Mine pressure tested fine but needed milling/warped from a p.o. bad head gasket job

, carefully chase the threads in the block and everywhere if you did not already, this aluminum is not to forgiving

While the engine is mostly apart might want to check the oil pump, its on the timing set basicly

Oil pump pickup in the pan comes loose, reseal pan probly leaking

Replace the motor mounts, they are cheap and easier in the engines current state, they look good even when bad

Remember, new these were bought by yuppies that probly did 0 maintenance other then occasional brake pads and oil changes, but they are nice once brought up to snuff

And after the engines good then starts the real fun with the drive line and electrical gremlins

I get the g.I. attitude deal with it at work, some think they are right even when proven wrong, we are all a little stub burn, is what it is
