Default Disco 1 rear wiper not working

Hello, 1998 Disco1 rear wiper not working. Pulled motor and tested with probe, seems to be working fine. Checked fuse and is ok. I also checked sprayer with motor connected, sprayer works but wiper doesnt work and neither does the regular rear wiper switch. Could the switch be the culprit? The rear wiper worked before. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thank

The switch was the culprit on mine when I had similar symptoms. I pulled the switch out, found it to be filled with 15 years of grease, dust and other assorted funk. Cleaned it out with contact cleaner, it has been working fine since.

You also have the multi function unit (MFU) on the back of the fuse block. It controls timing for a lot of small stuff. Here is a test procedure from the RAVE shop manual.

1. Close all doors and the tailgate.
NOTE: If the oil pressure switch goes open circuit
(engine is started) during the following procedure,
the MFU will exit the diagnostic mode immediately.
2. Press and hold the heated rear screen switch
and switch on the ignition.
3. Release the heated rear screen switch within 2
seconds and the MFU will beep to indicate that it’s in
diagnostic mode 1.
4. Press the heated rear screen switch; the MFU
will beep twice. In turn, operate each of the following
switches, heated front screen, rear fog guard lamps,
side lights, headlights, front wiper and rear wiper.
The MFU will beep twice each time a switch is operated.
5. Pressing the heated rear screen again will cause
the MFU to enter diagnostic mode 2.
6. The MFU will provide outputs to the following in
order given below:

Heated rear screen relay energised for 2 seconds

Heated front screen energised for 2 seconds

Courtesy lights energised for 2 seconds

Dim dip relay energised for 2 seconds

Rear fog guard lamp energised for 2 seconds

Headlamp power wash energised for half a second

Front wiper energised for half a second

Rear wipe/wash energised for half a second

7. The MFU will then exit the diagnostic mode.

All the switches on the Rover are the same, swap your bad rear wiper switch with a known good working switch, like the rear defroster switch and see if it starts working again.
If not the MFU would be the next place to look.

Hello,

I tried to follow this procedure, but wasn’t able to do so : the heated screen switch is only powered when the engine is engaged (Disco 300Tdi from may 1998)

Greetings,
PierroDisco from Belgium

I have exactly the same problem , wiper was working but now isn’t . I think the locking on the tailgate has stopped too!
need to look into it when the weather improves!

Let for a little moment assume the fall-out of the courtesy lights and the rear wiper not working should be independent totally separated problems.
I have an electrical gauge but I haven’t used it…till now.
What exactly have I to measure on the two conductors of the rear wiper connector (Tension or current, and at what amount.. ) ?
I’m sorry, but I absolutely don’t want to damage any electrical component due to malversation of my gauge !

Greetings,
PierroDisco (from Belgium)

You probe for 12 Volts (tension as you say, we say voltage), could be up to 14 V when engine is on. That's one way to use the gauge. Don't use current across the wires, or you could blow a fuse or fry the gauge.
