Default Disco 1 stuck in park

Hi all,
Ive recently brought a 1998 Disco 1 V8 auto jap import as a project.

We have just got it to start and run now we are trying to get it to move but appears to be stuck in park. We have checked the brake light switch and had a look at a few fuses but no luck.

I have seen a post about someone’s leaky sunroof causing it to seize and this is likely as the sunroof is stuck open.

Any suggestions or anyone who has experience with similar would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks,

Tegan

Sounds like the shift release button is not connected, or the brake solenoid is not working... Hard to tell over the internet without having a hand on the shifter to see what it is working

How did you check the brake light switch?

Try this...

There are interlock circuits between the key, shifter, and brake. There are two brake switches. One with a CC vacuum hose attached, and one with only wires. Maybe download the wiring diagrams from Walt's signature to help troubleshoot. Electrical Troubleshooting Manual (ETM) is very British. Don't know what you mean by jap. Maybe you are on the wrong forum.

Thank you for your reply! One of the brake lights is working therefore I’ve been told the switch must be to.

Thank you I will definitely look into this! It’s a Japanese import, Honda had a partnership with land rover and made the Honda crossroad (just a debaged disco 1) and a lot of them were imported back to the uk so it should be the same.

Thank you. Do you know how I would check these?

it may very well be fine, but for the cost of a paperclip you can eliminate that issue with more certainty. Nothing could be easier.

What's up with the added links to posts that sturgeongenera is adding? Something seems odd.
