Default Discovery 1991 3.5 V8i wont start

Hello All,

Well I got my hands on a 1991 3 door Disco Series I. 3.5l V8i but alas not running.
Previous owner was cruising up a hill and stated the car just slowly died he pulled over cranked and cranked and it wouldn't start. Had it towed and has parked it for a year or 2.
Initial inspection showed a failed fuel pump, I've drained the tank cleaned it out. (I got 20mm of just crap around the pump filter) It was 100% clogged.
New pump, new inline filter, I now have fuel to the engine. (Turn key on to IGN you can hear the pump run then stop). During cranking the pump is running as well.
Car still won't start though.
I have replace the coil, but still have an intermittent spark (testing with timing light on each HT lead to each cylinder I only get spark on half of them). IGN on I have good 12V to each LT lead on the coil.

I'm getting a bit desperate now.
Couple of things:
I can't hear the injectors click when cranking, so not 100% I'm getting fuel? How can I test this? (should I be able to hear them when cranking?)
How do I test the distributor to know if it is the amplifier on it, or the distributor itself?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers
Adam

there should be a pressure port on the fuel rail. (kind of like a tire valve) depress the center pin and fuel should shoot out. Wear safety glasses and cover it with a rag so it doesn't hit you in the face.

You need 3 things to start any car. Fuel, compression and spark.
