Default Discovery 1993

Good day,
My father in-law has a problem with his Land Rover Discovery 1993. The car starts intermittently. It will start up and he drives it then after stopping after a few stops it won't start again then he will rest it over night and when he tries again the next day it will start. When you put the ignition on the fuel pump runs, there is spark, but it doesn't start, it just swings. The fuel pump relay and fuel filter was changed. Can you advise what this is?

Many thanks
Anthea

a likely culprit is the Crank-Position-Sensor

the '93 should have the 14CUX fuel injection system, thus no crank sensor.......
1. check fuel pressure at the fitting on the fuel rail >>should be between 30 and 35 psi
2. you may see spark, but it may not be "good " spark........>>get a cheap in-line spark checker and check for a good spark at the plug cap(s)
3. you may have to dive into the ignition system further >> distributor cap & rotor, amplifier module , coil...a weak coil will produce visible spark , but not be sufficient to run the vehicle
4. what condition is the battery in ??

let us know what you find :0)

Just fixed my 95, this was the issue. also had a overheated wire from the amp to the coil.

Default Discovery '93

Hi all

Firstly I want to thank everyone for your input and help with my thread.
My husband has managed to fix the problem.
It was the injector relay and has now been replaced.

Many thanks
