diy snorkel?
It's funny to me because my sweeper truck at work has an Isuzu cab and the air filter and intake are pretty much a snorkel setup and I was joking with my mechanic that I was going to cut a hole in my hood and put that in as a snorkel
If you really want to make one on the cheap that looks ok, cut your fender like a Mantec and follow their instructions for the most part. The cheap part is get a piece of 2 1/2 inch pvc 6 or so feet long and cap one end. Pack it full of casting sand, then cap the other end. If you know an electrician this part will be easier ( they have a slick tool for heating up pvc ) heat the pvc evenly across a 12 to 18 inch length about 24 inches from one end all the way around the pipe. When it is soft carefully hold it up to the Rover with the fender off and slowly bend the pipe until it follows the profile of the inner fender and the A pillar. You can use duct tape ( proper for everything but ducts ) to hold it until it cools. If you are lucky you can leave the cap on the fender end and cut off the top cap and dump out the sand. The rest is easy, I have seen a guy buy a Mantec top and I have seen a guy use a cone filter on top. The pass through the inner fender you can use light gauge stainless or aluminum and "Right Stuff" the crap out of it, then patch the horn hole and drain holes on your air box and your redneck snorkel is complete. You can do the same thing with exhaust pipe if you know a shop willing to work with you.
