the questions..
1) I cannot turn this motor with the allen wrench will not budge. but the motor runs. (yes i ran it while not installed... - is this normal?
2) any trick to get the motor reset back to the closed position - it seems to have a group of presets based on a magnet in a wheel.
3) i will remove and refit the sunroof if needed as described in other threads but want to confirm that no one has a quicker fix for the "from the motor hole" leak.

Also, the rubber in the sunroofs are not shown or mentioned in the rave or at BAtlantic - ?? are they not replaceable??

I ask this in another thread - in case a mod wants to combine them.

Thanks
You know you fellas posted in a nearly three year old thread, right? Also the guy who started it turned out to be a liar, moron and all around complete tool. I highly recommended you start a new post, the stink of this guy will drive away the good people who know and can help you like the bobcat pee I put on my shrubs to keep the deer from noshing them even with the ground.

Yup I knew it was old, Tis the best route to take. as a Moderator for hmm.. 15+years myself; have always preached to SEARCH FIRST and respond for clarification/additional questions in threads on same topic. No need to go and rehash information over and over and over again. Hate wasting people's time and most importantly disrespecting those who have already taken time and given answers in the topic area. Besides that it helps the financier of the board by reducing server storage cost.

hmmm... well that really stimulates positive helpful discussion on the topic. Course maybe it was meant tongue and cheek, hard to tell without emoticons.

Will continue search and post up any other questions in an appropriate thread. Oh and; also promise to use a crystal ball next time. That way I'll know in advance not to seek any additional info from tool-toting moron.

Yeah, I tried to get some info about the sunroof on my DiscoI and I have figured out that it is some sort of strange or aftermarket unit. Luckily mine is closed and doesn't leak, but I can't open it. The motor turns but just clicks so I assume the gears for the drive are shot. The screws that hold the glass in are only accessable from under the inside trim, which can only be removed if the roof is open.

I have learned that I should have a second sunroof if it was a factory roof. Since |I only have a front roof, someone added it and it could be any model from anywhere, which makes it tough to find parts or figure out how to repair it. it does have an inside roller shade that is 2 pieces, left and right which works good to block the sun. I am not into sunroofs that much, just gets me that it doesn't work.

I ALWAYS promote positive helpful discussion, stupid emoticons or not, and have posted many times with topics of my own foibles and issues and, more importantly, how they were resolved.I only replied to your post because I was trying to save you some time and effort. Trust me, there, mr. moderator, I certainly won't bother doing so again.

Well unfortunately the topic starter dropped off the site , no response to emails either so is kind of a dead thread since he is not making parts or helping

With sunroofs seems they work or you have to fight to make em work, some guys get em closed and glue them shut

Thank you. Have discovered someone has already done this to the Rear one. Considering this for front once I figure out why it wants to pop up the backside and then get it to sit back flush.

I too have questions! How hard would it be for a person to remove the two sunroofs from, say an old '96 Discovery SE7, and put them in a say, '96 Discovery SD? I'm not in the middle of doing that or anything, I was just curious to know if it can be done. Thanks!

Sure. Very simple: cut hole and install. Really is not much more difficult than that. Find a donor and you will see that the sunroofs are assemblies that remove and install easily. Make sure you get the switches and control to go along with them. Removal is: disconnect wiring, disconnect drains, remove motor, remove lower tray and lift out upper assembly. I believe the rave manual shows proper placement to make cutout when the dealer installed them as an accessory item.

Most of us want to remove them to eliminate the leaks that are often associated with them. There are better aftermarket ones available but due to the availability of used discovery parts: the factory units will be way cheaper than anything aftermarket. Get ones from the D2 as they seem to be plentiful in the pullapart type salvage yards and a few minor improvements were made to the tracks in the late 90s.
