Mighty nice of SWMBO to hang on and keep the camera steady while you drove...

Forgot to mention that after you take out front shaft you can use the cdl and still drive around on the rear shaft only.

Fixed it for you.

The A-arm ball joint will cause a clunking when it's worn. Not that that is your problem, but something else to check.

Eric, I noticed some movement in the area forward of the grease nipple where the rubber boot is on the front shaft. That is where the splined area of the drive shaft is, possible excessive wear there perhaps?

Also noticed some wobble in the CDL shifter.

trans mounts and engine mounts too! Believe it or not I just upgraded to the Jag V12 engine mounts and it has seemed to cut back on the park to drive or reverse clunk

Front U-joints were definitely bad. They self destructed from lack of lube:

Here's the rebuilt and cleaned propshaft:

I used USA made Precision 344's and replaced all the hardware with grade 8.

Now with a much better understanding of the U-joints they should last a long time.

Great work, I have never seen a u-joint that bad off. Glad to hear about the replacements as I will no doubt be doing mine one day, maybe this summer.

You will eventually have a totally rebuilt 1997 SE7. Mine is also a 97 SE. I wonder how close the VINS are.

Yeah loving the rebuilt shaft. It's buttery smooth. Now just got to do the rear.

Let's see how close they are: SALJY1247VA720702

Mine is SALJY 1245VA 704580 MFG 06/96. Mine is a GEMS version.
With 122,785 miles on it.

My rear D/S was replaced when the RotoFlex shredded and broke one of the mounting holes out of the rear flange, so I went with a 98 without the rotoflex and changed from a 3 bolt to 4 bolt rear flange. It rides really well with that in.

I got the driveshaft locally and the four bolt flange from Paul Grant and the other little parts from AntiChrist for a grand total of about 100 bucks which was less than a rotoflex and a 3 bolt flange. So no more rotoflexs to replace, universal joints on both ends now.

Eric, I hope you take care not to crack that granite with those heavy parts!

Sounds like a good deal Danny. These U-joints seem strong as long as they're lubed. Glad mine came with U-joints already.

Just when I thought all had ended well...
