EICU or "Spider"
I have not yet had problems with this on my 97'Disco I (154k miles). Can someone tell me if historically the problems have been more on the diesel units or should i expect and be prepaired for the same nightmare on my V8.
And, will the bypass unit "AMR4956" work on the gasoline units. My Disco I stays and is used most at the deer lease and there would be no way to get any parts of any kind so I'm just trying to gather some "critical" parts to have on hand in case of a breakdown in the woods.
Thanks for Looking and I appreciate any and all advice!

From what I've read, you should be able to disable the spider without the bypass unit. You may need to keep the directions and some wire handy though. Otherwise, I'd do away with it now before it leaves you stranded...
Discoweb is probably your best source for this kind of info...a quick search turned up multiple threads that might be helpful. Below is a link to one example.

(Be careful though, Discoweb isn't for the thin skinned. Just make sure you search before you post anything and get butthurt if someone disagrees with whatever you say.)

Thanks for the advice. I just thought that as cheap as the bypass unit is it may be handy to have especially since it will require tearing into the dash to get to the unit anyway.
With 154k miles on the vehicle i'm either past the point of having the issues associated w/the spider or real close to being a victim.
