Default Expansion Tank...its busted...

Well, after a 350 mile trip, the truck ran perfect (but the damn SEL, CEL ABS and SRS lights did bothered me).

Yesterday morning, I drove to Orielly's and OSH. When I got home, I parked her on the sidewalk. I walked around the truck into the garage, and then it happened. The waterfall of coolant flowed down the front right corner. I opened the hood and noticed the crack at the seam on the tank. I removed the cap slowly and noticed that it still held some pressure.

Well, it is finally time to replace the "black" tank. Ordered one from AB this morning, hopefully I get it by the end of this week.....

Okay....whats next....????

I'm lucky, mine was newer when I bought my DI in April. You and Trav have brought much to this forum and I thank you both. I'm slowly buying replacement parts for the wearable items as I find them on sale, getting laid off sucks but it gives you time to work on our babies.

adigerol77,
Thanks for the nod.. :-)
I knew I was getting 1200.00 worth of vehicle - Really, I've invested 200.00 so far and about 15 Hours - But I and my daughter are getting some 1 on 1 time, and she's learning lots about how a vehicle works - the 94/95 is still simplistic enough to teach - Her favorite comment/realization right now is "So it's like a circle" - She's getting the idea that each thing that happens on a vehicle is triggers something else which in turn triggers the next thing - It's always cool seeing the lightbulbs turn on behind my kids eyes when what I've been trying to teach them, finally kicks in.

Wheelgarage,
Would definitely recommend you replace the thermostat - I started a thread to find out common/recommended type/brand. I would also recommend you make sure the radiator is clear of debri - I would seem there is a common problem with Disco radiators getting clogs between the condensor (I think that's the right word/device) and the radiator. Will be doing a complete coolant system run over tomorrow -
So thankful for the swimming pool !!!

In Peace and Agape,
Trav...

I barely touched the surface....and I feel like I am just beginning. I completely understand the difference between a loved LR and a neglected LR. You put in the love, you get it back in return....this thing better give it back!

And good luck....it sounds like you are spending your time wisely!

Trav.

The temp gauge indicates the Disco runs cooler when the AC is on and stable when not on. I haven't seen any spikes at all. Upon further inspection, the tank, was repaired via epoxy and busted in the same spot. In addition, I do remember the tank being full, to the top, of coolant. I can only assume that the cap didn't vent when it reached 15PSI. When I ordered the tank, I also ordered the cap.

I will though change the thermostat and clean between the condensor and radiator just in case.....great..more to add on the list....

Got home from the office at 5 and found the AB box on my porch. Opened the box and drove the Disco in the garage. The time it took to remove and replace the tank took about 30min. It took another 30min to fill and burp the system. Drove it around the block with the A/C on and no change in temp.

I will drive it around town tomorrow for further testing...should hit under 100F, so it will be a good and final test.

I will change the thermostat when I change the tension pulley....next week or so...front brakes first, which should come in tomorrow...I hope.
