Fan Clutch 215157 or 215158 (HD)?
HEy y'all:
so... it seems that several of y'all have tried the HD version of the Chevy fan clutch. But I haven't seen any definitive POST-installation information about how you liked it and if you'd recommend it?
I plan to pull the radiator this weekend to have it rodded, and while I'm at it, I'll be replacing the fan clutch. I'd really love to do it only once.

It's my understanding that the HD clutch simply causes your fan to run more, decreasing your mpg and increasing the annoying sound it makes. My opinion is that the standard duty clutch works perfectly fine on a maintained cooling system. I'd put your money into rodding the radiator or a high flow Tstat.

I've run both - see https://landroverforums.com/forum/ge...pped-me-43250/
I ended up going with a partz vulturez special from the junkyeard, a Chevy Blazer (2000) clutch and deeper fan for $19. Same water pump threads, same reverse rotation, blades "trimmed". So there are multiple solutions.
I was flying low among the deads ones yesterday (prowling the yard) and noticed that a 98 Rangie had a deeper fan that has an enclosed ring around the edge, like a D2 fan. Bigger blades can move more air.

Imperial has Standard duty, heavy duty and severe duty. The three that fit the Discovery are:
Standard Duty - 215157 - 3.12" overall height - requires drilling fan to use 10mm bolts
Severe duty - 215158 - 4.59" overall height - requires drilling fan to use 10mm bolts (required for clearance if using metal fan)
Severe duty - 216039 - 3.12" overall height - uses OE 8mm bolts for fan
My wife's '97 has the standard duty Imperial in the fall-spring and severe duty in the summer with the original fan.
My '95 has the severe duty year round with the Imperial metal fan.
The 216039 crosses to:
Hayden - 2991
Beck/Arnley - 130-0207
Carquest - 77725
Four Seasons - 46054 (I've never heard of this brand)
NAPA - 271656
Torqflo - 922302
