First long trip in my D1
Guaranteed you'll find out what you need by the second trip. These trucks actually don't travel too bad for long trips. Besides a few parts you will want the front end tight. Nothing will drive you more crazy than wandering back and forth in a light breeze. The driver's seat bottoms sag. Nothing like a wedged **** to make it seem like a month behind the wheel. So snug up the webbing underneath if needed.
You don't. There are different boxes you check based upon what you can offer. Like Mechanical Help, Place to Stay, a Shop, etc. It may be that someone could just use a ride to the parts store if they break down.
One thing to consider that I did not see mentioned already is the wheel bearings. Make sure yours are freshly packed as they can spot weld themselves in plae to the stub axle and be a bitch to do roadside if they fail at highway speeds and cause a lot of damage as well as u-joints.
Carry a spare set of each and the appropraite tools in case they do self destruct on you underway. Also a tarp or something to puyt down if you do need to crawl under and fix something on the side of the road.
Maybe even orange cones/flares/flashrs/emergency lighting/water/ food/ clean socks
reading material/cookies & milk/beer &pretzels/whiskey and cigars/lots of money.
Duct tape and zip locks also called a Date Rape Kit.
Edit: I forgot condoms.
