fixing illumination transmission gear shift selector

I lost the lighting/illumination on one side of my gear shift select - is there a bulb to replace ?

Yes. under the trim piece that goes around the shifter. There is a bulb on each side.

DO NOT just use regular 168/194 peanut bulbs. They'll melt the assembly. Either go with LED 168/194's like the sylvania zevo's or OEM bulbs.

Son of a bitch. I wondered why it was melted in the one I bought. I was considering swapping out the whole unit, but wasn't sure how it happened. Good to know!

I have Sylvania 194 LED's in the gear selector, city lights in the headlamp housing, and the rear bumper side lights. Some folks had issues with these in the headlamp housing, but I'm at 5+ years and they are still going strong.

I also use LED's for the interior overhead lamps, Sylvania 6461 I think, and I can now actually see inside the truck at night.
