Yeah but the screw is probably larger than the reluctor tab!

I think a 4 Barrel conversion sounds wonderful....which company would you recommend I look at?? How much would same conversion cost. I understand these are Buick engines...how would the gas mileage be with 4 barrel in lieu of the electrical computer to moderate fuel? I may just do that if the weld plan fails in execution.... though I have confidence, if not faith and hope and optimism, that a tab of same width brazed in place will work.

I sincerely wish you the best with whatever you do. I was just saying that attempting to reattach such a small piece in precisely the same exact position it was in is not a high probability of success.

Also the smaller it is and the thinner it is, the difficulty increases significantly and with that the probablity of success is decreased exponentially.

In any last ditch effort, any attempt is better than no attempt. If you were stranded on a deserted island and you found an old airplane from WWII, you might be able to rig it well enough to attempt a life saving escape.

I would assume you would like for this to last you for quite a while to come, not just get you a few miles down the road. If all the elements of the solar system align properly, it may work. As far as having confidence in such a repair making it a dependable daily driver, I would not bet on it.

Please let us know how it goes. We all are pulling for you to succeed.
Best Wishes..

I recommend Land Rover as the source of the parts needed to convert to carb. After all, they did have a carb on there to begin with.

Sort of reminds me of the scene of Bogart welding a new prop for his boat the African Queen....

Anyway...these days money is hard to come by....and cost of gas...up 122% since just four years ago.

Am real curious about the carb option....just wondering if anyone would recommend a specific type and what gas mileage would be?

Here's another cocktail napkin - a metal clip made to slip over existing tooth, solder, etc. Holds new "tooth" in perfect alignment.
