Default Fuel Filler Hose

So I replaced some rear suspension bits because a shock was leaking and since all the bits were original it was time. As good measure I also *replaced the top fuel vent hose and filler hose that were also original and not leaking. Well fast forward not even two years later and the fuel filler hose is split and leaking fuel. I paid over $50 for an original landy part. My question is should it have failed so soon and is there a better alternative for this replacement ?

Yes the large filler hose not the small top of tank vent hose. I purchased the twisted rubber OEM LR part for double or more the price and it is lasted not even two years. - The original to car part wasn't leaking and that was 25 years old.

Thanks I will investigate the Gates - their rubber parts are top notch - not sure why this part would parish so fast - doesn't get UV issues - not sure why it would crack and split.

My guess is like low production tires it was an "old rubber" part6

I used adapters to fix the vent tube, but it split, so I wrapped it up with self fusing tape, but it unravelled, so I snugged it up with a hose clamp. Now it holds good pressure, I get a nice woosh when I open the gas cap at the filling station. I also used 2 inch fuel filler hose, maybe from NAPA.

The more ethanol used in fuel today is the #1 cause of our older fuel setups rotting.

Ethanol added to fuel does have a part but a small part - many studies on the effect of rubber - no I suspect the reason was it was NOS - part on shelf for a very long time - of course unlike tires there is no mfg. date on it so no way to know - why repair places don't even want to keep vacuum hose on their shelves more than a week.

Some gas stations state their unleaded fuel contains 25% ethanol in their fuel. I try to stick 10% ethanol as my max or find fuel at stations which don't contain it. NOS is certainly possible, I bought my large hose from AB and it was OEM. 4 years so far and all good. Unlike the vent line which lasted maybe 2 months. Used Gates 3/4 Fuel Injector line and zero issues since.

Wow never heard of 25% ethanol - have done many coast to coast trips in the last 5 years and never seen that posted - (do they have to post it?) 10% I see posted. I have heard some brands are 100% gas if you buy premium but not sure if that is true and if it is by state. I have one station in Santa Fe NM that has 100% gas that is premium (Murphy's) - priced about 25 cents above premium with ethanol but below diesel. The east coast has more 93 octane premiums than the midwest/west which tends to have more 91 premiums. Of course closer to corn country you get more ethanol you get in your gas. I don't think I have seen any 95 octane pumps in a long time. Well certainly off topic and like what is the best oil/filter this can go down a rabbit hole.
