Default Fuel Pressure Regulator

I wanted to get a few opinions on what I think is a bad fuel pressure reg. I can faintly smell fuel when I pull off the vacuum line but don't see any with the engine idling. I went today and got a fuel pressure test kit. It has 30psi at idle. When I pull the vacuum line off the regulator it will rise 3 psi and then begin to slowly fall all the way down to 16psi. Fluctuating between 16-18 at idle. If I hit the throttle the pressure spikes accordingly. I think fuel pump is ok. I feel this is the bug I have searching for.

Any thoughts?

I just had 1179 code engine ran bad did not want to go down road, 28 psi at idle, squeeze the return line pressure shot up engine ran great

Do you have codes?

Try that with pliers, pressure should shoot up if it does let off not sure what it will hold

I replaced pump, sock, filter, no help, did the regulator runs fine now not sure my pressure since the test gauge is wonky now

Bought the for online auto zone was cheapest with labor day discount ended Monday

You also need hylomar for plenum and need to remove top and bottom of plenum leaving bare intake

Good time to upgrade injectors

Check my thread last couple pages

Put fuel gauge on idle engine, crimp return line see what happens

You can also check the plug at the sender for damage, and the harness plug above frame pass rear wheel well

Unplug the the hose to regulator what's the gauge do?

Are you crimping the metal return line?

No the flex line at back of engine, one is feed one return, don't crush it just squeeze it

Resurrecting an old thread - but I'm trying to still chase down poor mpg (8 mpg city). I have a new fuel filter and pump and my injectors don't seem to be leaking. However I have slightly low fuel pressure.

When I crimp the return line it shoots up to 100psi - is that good, bad, normal? Trying to see if I need a new regulator since everything else is new.

sounds like the pump is fine as long as it can build that kind of pressure......
