Got the wires fixed, but of course nothing ever goes as planned when working on a 24 year old vehicle. The furry CKPS housing that's made of plastic/fiberglass cracked in half as I was reassembling. I'll reach out to Paul and Will to see if they happen to have a used one.
The crankshaft position sensor or the bare connector wires were the cause of my issues. Old Indy is up and running correctly again. It revs to around 5.5k now with no misfires or fuel shutoff. I'm happy to be motoring again!
The ckps housing I received from Will (part # ERR6928 - stamped on the inside of the housing) was different than the one originally on my truck. My old housing had two long spacers and 2 long bolts that held the housing and sensor on both sides. Without the spacer on the sensor side of the replacement housing, the bolt was going to stick through the housing too far (longer than the probe on the crankshaft sensor), so I cut the spacer out of the broken housing, mounted 'er up and all seems well. The housing Will sent only has one bolt that holds the housing, the other bolt just holds the sensor.
There's a local LR shop that parts out trucks, and he says he has the housing I originally had on there. I'm gonna swing by there next week to pick it up as that one seems to be more secure.
The broken piece on the lower left in the pic shows the length of the metal spacer. My old housing had completely disintegrated.
