Well, so far I have noticed that if I quit being lazy, i can figure things out and they are not that bad. So I went under the truck and looked for leaks and cracks. Looked at the filler neck and that looked ok, the rubber hose connecting it to the tank is in ok shape. I will probably be replacing that once i find out the size and or the right parts.

So i found nothing that was bad under the truck so i moved to the access panel under the carpet. I removed that and what i found was just amazing.

The big red ring that is threaded was not tight, the seal was all jacked up and the pump housing was literally just laying in the tank.

Here is the problem the only way i can screw the big red ring on is without using the black seal, I am not sure why buy i can't get the pump all the way down to get it to start threading. Also there is the feed and return lines that are bolted to the top of the pump. There is also the plug for the electronics and then there is a big plastic opening that makes a 90 degree bend and there is no hose that i can see to slide on there. So I am not sure if i have the right pump housing either.... Any help would be great.

Ok so here is my main question now and i can't seem to find a good answer.

This is the pump housing that is in my truck now. (not my photo) but the same pump housing

I know where the feed and return are and i have the electrical plug. the 4th part(connection on the left) a vent that I have no idea where it goes. I can see the vent tube on the filler neck and I can see it goes to the tank and that is connected and fine

Also from searching I have done this is a P38 fuel pump housing and is that the same as the one that should be found in a 96 discovery? I got the seal on finally!!!!!

Maybe Paul Grant or someone familar with the P38 could tell you where that line goes, or look up the P38 in the RAVE.

My Pre-AEL does not have that third line.

As far as the seal, I put that in the tank opening first, then apply Vaseline to the inner lip and eased the fuel pump down squarely and started the red ring tat secures it.

The top of mine is white where yours is grey.

Incorrect style for your truck. Your filler cap should be "vented". Make sure that third line connection is sealed well.

Did that already, the tank was replaced in 05.

Ok so the filler neck has the proper vent still running to the tank how it should. The hose running to the stock Discovery vent looks to be in good shape as well.

So really i should just be able to cap the vent off on the top of the pump and it can work fine. Or do you guys think this is a bad idea. Remember i still have the vent from the filler neck to the tank.

The truck runs fine and gets normal fuel milage.

Since trhe fuel pump produces somewhere around 36 psi, I would be concerned with trying to cap it!. If the cap blows off, you would be spraying fuel under pressure and could become a torch quickly.

Rovers North has the correct one for your truck for $99.50 plus shipping.

Get the olives and a new seal as well and you are in Hawg Heaven.

You could sell the wrong one to a P38 owner.
