Default glow plug light

hi all newbie here, cant find an answer using search facility so posting this thread. Got a 1995 (N) disco 300tdi about 160,000 miles. When I started it up after work tonight the glow plug light came on then didnt go off for quite a long time, whilst driving home it kept coming on while at low revs and going off as I increased speed. Any ideas what problem may be and will it be ok to continue using until weekend when I can look into sorting it out???

Thanks in advance Joe.

Yes its the little symbol that looks like a coiled spring on the top right hand side of my speedometer. I had to use the disco for work again today and light stayed on longer than usual when key was turned but went off slowly (it sort of just faded out) and didnt come back on again until I parked up at work same again on drive home. Is it worth just changing glow plugs or poss some other fault???
Joe
