Nice write up and info on how you re-did your system. I was having an issue with my two 6.5" subs in the rear door. I found an article a few years back about a guy that bought his replacement speakers @ Walmart for under $20. I followed suit and 2 years later, my walmart 6.5" subs are still rockin! Here's a pic of something similar to what i bought..it's like something you would put on your back seat..has horn tweeters..i believe the total price i paid for the box was $19 + tax. Just remove the speakers from the box and replace your blown speakers in your door. Easy to do, makes it fast with an electric screwdriver.

I found two 10" Kicker CompVR's for sale in a legit Kicker Ported Box for sale for $100, guy was 35 and had the gain set to 1/2 the entire time. Now I'm about to buy a 1000watt stable @ 1ohm amp to power those twin bad girls. I figure I will just take out the old subs and slap some plating over it. The grill is nasty looking.

How do you plan on building a box where the back jump seat is? I'm interested so I can fit a 10" on each side? 0.0

Well, the space between the wheel well and the back half of the truck where we have those crappy little storage bins, I made a sub box that fits right in there. It sticks out maybe an inch further than flush and has more than enough internal cubic footage for one 10". So you could def do one on either side. I just used cardboard for a template and the. Cut three pieces of 3/4" mdf. Two for the face (laminated) and one for the back. It's easy. Just waiting for a head unit....Xmas??

Alright so it turns out I haven't had this box in the truck in a while and I remember it being slimmer. But if you buy a slim subwoofer that needs less internal sq ftage then it could easily be flush.

My plan is to upholster it in whatever I do the headliner in. Desert digital camo???? If not I'll pait the headliner and salvage the cloth for the sub box. If you want dimensions I guess we should open a thread and talk about how to do it. Not hard at all. It's just mdf and silicone caulk.

Caleb, here's a link that'll tell you everything you need to know about building a sub box.
http://www.crutchfield.com/S-epb56to..._building.html
As far as my measurements. I can take em when I have time but i won't be able to give you the angles for the tapered portions. That'll end up being trial and error (at least that's how I did it, with a lot of sanding). So you may as well grab a piece of cardboard, cut it to fit the spot and use it as a template since you'll need 3 identical pieces anyway. I'd def recommend a shallow mount sub so you could try and mount it flush. Also, I didn't use rope caulk, just more silicone, and I haven't mounted it yet. Probably just gonna screw gun it into something. Or fab some brackets real quick. It's not on my radar because I don't have the head unit. If you have any questions I'll try to help. But I'm no master fabricator. (as clearly evidenced by the photos of my sub box). Good luck.

im greatful that i found this thread will make my stereo install much easier. i have a few questions tho, im installing a sony xplod deck. but how many speakers are in the suv? ive heard of 4, 4in. with the back 2, 6.5's. and also 6, 4in. with 3, 6.5's if someone could clearify this for me would be awsome. my "idea" is wiring the stereo to the 4 door speakers, cutting the stock amp out like caleb did and dropping the 2 6.5's in the door and installing a kicker l7 10" with a 1200 wat amp, for my kick. any opinions or comments welcomed thanks all

This is a d1 thread. My d2 with hi system is very different. You should inspect your speakers and measure. I am going through the process myself. I have 12 speakers. Two 6.5 subwoofers 4 6.5 woofers 2 2.5 midrange and 4 tweeters.
