It is a big/long job, but one that is quite satisfying. I'll get another 150k out of her.

I did not find a ground strap anywhere (aside from the starter). Is there an engine ground strap on a 1997 D1?

Next job is suspension bushings.
Walt, did you had to do any machining on the heads or were these still within the spec?
Also, great write up! Thank you.

I didn't check them, but at 237k I thought I had gotten my money's worth and had them done by default. A valve job was also performed. Yeah, I may have spent more than I needed, but I don't have the time, space, or infrastructure to do this type of job often. I wanted to remove all doubt.

Got you. Makes sense. I live in the very rural area, so finding good machine shop, lol, finding machine shop at all here is a challenge. I hope when it comes to this, my heads will be within the spec...but I guess we will see...

gonna add one more thing..
I clean and chase the head bolt threads. My intent is to make them 'like new' in terms of lacking any debris, dirt, oil, or other fluids. Then brake clean followed by compressed air.

Good idea. Helps achieve the 'correct' torque setting too
