This engine I put in a few years ago, the wife ran the other one out of oil. This was the nastiest engine I'd ever seen but I put it in anyway. It has actually done pretty well until the HG failed. Anyway one thing about it was the valve train has always been extremely quiet. I'm hoping to just get the heads checked/decked, clean out the oil pan and put this thing back together. If it gives me any more grief I'll probably totally rebuild an engine or maybe buy a new rover and use this one for parts.

 

Well I removed the valves today. It's been a while, my other car addiction is over for the year so I'm ready to put time in this thing.

Hey guys, the auto part store said there was a difference in head gaskets in 94 from like before February then after (can't remember the exact date). Anybody know what the difference was?

I have no idea what the answer is but that engine is beautiful.

 

I'm very happy with the job the machine shop did. I haven't used this one before and it appears they did a great job. He had to take 12 thousands off the head that blew the gasket.

I have the valves back in and I lapped them before I sent the heads off. Next step is to clean the oil pan then put it together. I hope to have it done Sunday.

 

14 bolt heads are earlier, 10 bolt are later and it looks like yours is a 10 bolt from what I can see...... early heads used thin gaskets, later used thick. The combustion chambers differ to match gasket thickness. Bottom line, I'd say whatever you pulled off gets matched eh.
