IMHO painting is the way to go. Forget about all that fabric in a 4x4. That's just something to get dirty (not to mention I have a 7 and 4 y/o that like to leave smudges on the liner). I plan to paint mine I just have to get around to it. Started the project at one time but then I had to move to other more pressing problems with the disco.

Default the sky is falling....

My best suggestion to you is to drop the headliner board and deliver it to the shop so they can do it for you... That should save you tons of cash on labor. They will do a better job at recovering it than you can. This will then give you the time to go home and do all the maintenance you want / need to perform.

there are advantages to both having a shop do it and doing it yourself. $400 is a spot on price if they do everything... BUT if you want the time to get in there and do some repairs and PM stuff then you'll have to do it yourself. $800 is a ripoff and $100 will leave you wishing you had done it yourself.

There is the most amazing, awesomely fantastic thread about replacing your headliner in the tech section (just made myself laugh...). https://landroverforums.com/forum/sh...ad.php?t=33276

and definitely pull those roof rack rails off and clean up the area. When these rust it sux. If you don't find rust under the Alpine seals I'll be amazed.

I agree, that's what I did. BUT there are basically 2* different types of LR owner those in it for the looks and those in it for the function. Just check out one of those threads about what is the best 22 inch wheel/tire combo *gag*. (sorry, typing that made me throw up in my mouth a little ha ha)

*oh and then there is Cosmo, lol

I would do it myself long before spending hundreds of dollars on a headliner. Mine is currently out altogether and I don't miss it at all. I did reinstall my visor and the rear switch for the rear sunroof. Took my time and removed the rear air wiring and such that is unused in mime. Duct taped the wiring along the ribs.

I probably will put the thermal silver bubble wrap up before doing anything and maybe get some British Jack type material and make a new one.

Hmm...I hadn't considered painting it, but that's a great idea. I suppose if I do it and don't like it, I can take it to an upholstery shop and have them cover it.

Btw, I found your post on the paint job you did on your DII. Looks great from the pictures.

Mine was replaced for free, but the total cost was $1,062.00.

Personally I dont like the looks of it painted.

Default Beauty Queen with Steroid Issues...

I ain't the only exception 'round here Hernici

In no way, will I ever believe that form and function are mutually exclusive. (I say that with my fingers in my ears yellin naa naa naa like my 7year old).

Would anyone rebuild an engine, replace all the seals, hoses, belts and other wear items and not bother to at least wash and clean 100k miles of crap off it?

Sheee-it... I'd definitely paint my headboard if my rig was purely used as mud stompin, rock crushin, trail ride. But if my landy looks good and is kept clean (in between mud baths) then it'll run better, right? Like flames make ya go faster and sponsor stickers make your junk tougher.

sometimes putting lipstick on a pig makes the ribs taste better... sometimes it's all about the smoke -- A wise ol' feller told me that once.

That would be great if I wanted my headliner to look like...... well, paint (thought I was going to say something different, didn't ya?). I briefly considered other options including paint, but I thought it would feel drafty, let in more road noise, and ruin the perfect acoustics for the stereo. ;o) That and mine is not the only vote in the house.
