Default Help adding bluetooth to 1995 Land Rover Discovery 1

Hello everyone,

Two weeks ago, I purchased my first land rover (1995 Discovery 1). It is remarkable shape and in 100% stock condition. I am planning to do some upgrades to bring it into the modern era. Step #1 is to somehow add bluetooth to the sound system.

I would prefer to keep the original Pioneer head unit and replace the CD changer input with a bluetooth adapter (to maintain the front + rear amps and maintain the stock look). I naively purchased the Grom bt3 unit for the Disco IIs thinking it would plug into the Disco I radio- boy was I wrong! I am wondering if I can splice into the 13 pin connector for the original remote CD changer on the Pioneer amr2772 stereo to the Disco II cd changer inputs that come with the Grom BT3 unit.

Here is the diagram I found online that outlines the pinout diagram for the 1995 Disco I pioneer cd changer data link [LINK]

Here is the wiring diagram for the Disco II CD changer plug (connectors C135 which the Grom has all the wires inputs for) [LINK]

So basically, I am wondering if I can splice the following wires together:

Would I need to do anything with pins 5-13 to get the Disco I radio to recognize the bluetooth unit? I am hoping if I leave the main data pins connected to the existing CD changer, it won't interfere with the start up communication between the remote cd changer and the radio unit.

Thank you in advance!

When you say “original” Pioneer unit, you mean the one that someone else installed. In that case, since all the work of removing the original Land Rover unit has been done, wouldn’t it be easier to just install a different unit with a bluetooth feature? I just bought a Kenwood unit with Bluetooth, CD player, and Aux cord. It installed very easily with some basic butt connectors.

If your CD changer still functions you are in business. Tap the audio lines and add a bluetooth dongle using power from the the cigar lighter or the cd player.

I've gone through a couple of iterations....

If I were to do it today I would use one of these...
Amazon Amazon

Use the space under the window switches.
