I agree there are many things that can casue the high idle, that is why I suggested he check with a local dealer for a reset.

I would just like to be confident in what I read on here. And I do see a few contraditions. That is all I was pointing out.

All of us hate to throw money at a problem or have misleading info.

If diconnecting the TPS is a no no then I would like to know that and I do see others advising to do it. We all need good constructive advice and to learn from each other.

I do remember Spencer going thru lots of problems with his. I just wish he would supply good details, that is all.

Well I finally solved my sporadically high idle issue with an ecu reset. I took it to ASC Automotive in Jersey. With the truck idling somewhere around 2100-2200k the tech plugged in the scanner and with the push of a button the idle immediately dropped. Took about 10 minutes and only $50, those guys are great.
What I tried: Replace the TPS, IACV, Battery, alternator, and checked all the vacuum lines.

If you change the stepper the ecm needs reset, you sure the howling sound isn't the coolant fan?

And asc is an awesome rover shop great guys, they reset my ecm

Ecm reset is dealer or rover shop

You should not have tampered with base idle screw

Is the big print missing where MAF sensor goes on air cleaner?

Part off the big print is still there but is unreadable, somewhere in this forum is a discussion on the stepper motor faults whereby they discussed the cleaning process of the base idle.
