Homelink is a garage door opener integrated into your vehicle. It's the three little grey buttons in the center overhead panel, just above the rear view mirror.
Rolling codes may or may not be needed, based on whether or not your particular garage door opener requires it (it probably does). It basically changes the signal that the opener is looking for each time it receives one, based on some algorithm programmed into the opener and the remote. This is what keeps the crazy neighbor kids from driving down the road opening your garage for you. What they're saying is that the Homelink in the vehicle isn't programmed for this, and thus it won't work with garage doors that require it.

Homelink is nice if you have more than one remote operated thing, like a security gate and a garage door.
I have mine programmed for my garage as well as my mothers.

So Spike, you're saying that yours works with a rolling code opener, or no?

Dang. I was hoping you knew something about programming it that I didn't. I would love to have that thing work on my garage door. Maybe I can rig up something else that it could activate. Like a neon "WELCOME HOME" sign or something.

There is a connection at the homelink unit. I think there is only power with key on. I'm not sure where it connects at the other end, my 96 didn't come with one so I wired it myself to a fusetap.

This is your built in auto garage door opener. either you have 3 buttons on the bottom of your mirror or below cargo light is a unit with 3 buttons. Program these to open up 3 different garages. also the rolling codes are used in older garage doors. you can manually change your code when ever you feel like it.
Hope that was helpful

I stumbled across your post about homelink. It is relatively easy to program but is never explained well in owners manuals. It should be able to open most any remote controlled garage door that you have a working remote for. If you have a rolling code style door opener it may be a Genie Intellicode, Overhead door code-dodger, or Security plus lift master, chamberlain, or sears. It can usually handle any of these. I own a garage door company and am extra familiar with all of them. Any questions let me know.
