Default Hood latch reminder

I was just surprised by my hood latch release pulling about 8 inches of cable through into the car. My latch has slowly been getting stiffer and stiffer and I had to break into my hood latch and release. I then had to completely disassemble my latch, repair the guard for the latch then clean and lubricate the whole latch assembly. Do yourselves a favor. Get some lube or grease in there before this happens to you!

Great post..

What type of lube to use?

I heard to use lithium grease? Plain grease? 3-1 oil?

Rover says to use white lithium grease on all latches and hinges, I use silicone spray.
Silicon spray will not attract dirt.
On the door stay on the cargo door use bike chain lube.

Good indication of needing lube.

I agree. Normally I am on top of these indicators but was preoccupied with sunroof issues which have also surprised me. Both are a bit out of sync and are catching when tilting. Yet another repair.

I used BG lubricating grease S2000. I also used some pb blaster penetrant in the cable sheath to clean up debris, then added lithium grease to keep the cable lubed. Feels pretty strong now.
