Good point. None of my D2 had any issues with their switches.

Default 1998 disco

Got my disco free! My mom was tired of paying too much to keep it running. Would not start for her, she left it in Barstow for three weeks. called me up asked if I wanted it. it actually cost me 500 buck, Trailer, Gas, and a new starter. I have come to see that these trucks are expensive if someone other than yourself works on them. parts are pretty cheap if you look in the right places and have patience. 127,121 miles on the odometer. Has a few leaks, replacing the power steering lines asap. Have two more leaks but cannot see them, one is coolant, the other is an oil (maybe from the power steer). Pressure washed the engine waiting for leaks to reaper. no coolant in the oil, no oil in the coolant. No visible leaks from the valve covers, or the heads. Has an exhaust leak at the manifold. Plan to change the oil pan gasket, replacing the thermostat and all the cooling system hoses. hope to have it up 2" on 31's in the next month.

Default $2800

I paid $2800 for my D1. It was a single-owner, well cared for, rock sliders, diffy armors and a rear locker were already on the rig. I've put a lot more into it to get it to rock crawler status. =)

Paid $7000 for my '97 in 2005. Was stock, had 58K on the odometer, and was regularly serviced (I knew the previous owner).

Dig the rims on your's not a very common style.
Thanks ArmyRover... I have not seen many other Discos with these either. They were hard to find agressive tread tires for... but maybe after I do a 2" lift it may be easier

Trust me I understand 18" rims just don't have a lot of good options. I'm still looking out for a set of the 16" 6 spokes. The bridgestone dueler AT's I picked up are ok but they are no where near as good as tires I've had in the past.

I paid $1500 for my 1997 Discovery, Had a primer painted hood and a mismatched color fender, but was in great shape otherwise. Had 120k on it, well maintained by the owner and dealer. All service records, but hit a deer and had to get the hood/fender. After hitting the deer, was parked.

I picked it up on craigslist, put some new bridgestone road tires on it, and went to work looking for issues. Amazingly, I only found 4. 2 window regulators, a vacuum leak causing cruise to not work, and an ABS fuse that burned out.

I took the truck to my father's paint shop, and painted it a peterbuilt blue/green metallic with TONS of flake and whatnot. I also installed some HID 8000k headlights as well as new headlamp housings and painted the underbody in an attempt to protect some exposed spots from rust.

Then I pulled the engine, dropped in a 4.6 crank and rods (keeping 4.0 pistons for better compression), had the block decked and surfaced, as well as heads slightly shimmed. I installed heavy duty valve springs, a more aggressive cam from Piper, a 4.6 engine management unit (GEMS), ported the heads, ported the manifold, shortened intake trumpets, and ported the plenum. I also installed a "Cold Air Intake" (really did effing nothing.), long tube headers, and a y-pipe to a glass pack out the side. No cats, but spacers on the O2 sensors to prevent codes being thrown. The front driveshaft is removed, essentially making it Rear-wheel-drive for burnout fun.

Overall I'm up to about 4500$ into this thing, and it's been a fun project. This is my first car I've had in my name, and I really love it.

Planned mods: Locking or Limited-Slip rear diff, probably pull one off a GM.
Manual swap sometime in the next couple years when I can figure out how to pull it off
ECU TUNE! 110 OCTANE MAP FOR RACE, 93 FOR STREET. As of now, its on 93 with a slight knock (counteracted by the knock sensor retarding timing a bit, not damaging)
Hoping to hook up a wet shot of nos, probably a 25 or 50 shot for added passing power
Bigger radiator! More power is more heat.
Considering a complete swap to another engine... if I get bored with the rover v8

For now, It's been really fun, and I'm not done yet.

Sounds like a lot of work and money for a 2wd truck that's still underpowered. But as long as you're having fun I guess!
I'd love to have that engine in mine if you ever end up getting bored.
