Thanks WaltNYC - I have no access to acetylene either. It was slow going (4+ hours) but I got them both out. Applied drilling oil and drilled at a slow RPM, starting with small bits and moving up. Bits never got hot. Eventually I was able to hammer out the remaining stud leaving a clean hole. Easily installed Bosal parts with good results, clean warm sound.
