Intermitten Starting
True, and the CKP will eventually die at a bad time anyway... when swapping out, plug in and let it hang to re-install, and be sure every nut and spacer goes back in exact sequence.
Ok an update, Now the thing wont start. It will crank but not turn over. Towed it home and looked at it. Checked the fuel pump fuses under the hood. One of the the 5 amp was blown. replaced it. Started right away. tried starting it several time after that it seemed all good. Waited about an hour and all it does is try to start meaning it cranks and then sputters and dies and other times just cranks. I tried to listen to the pump with the gas cap off and i do not hear the fuel pump. I even cut the carpet and looked at the fuel pump and it looks really good. But still I do not hear anything with the fuel pump exposed and the cover off and in the 2 position. Any ideas? Im about to buy a new fuel pump..... Really wish I could narrow it down.
Fuel pump in mine draws 5 amp, so fuse might need to be larger. In the RAVE schematic that fuse (F6) is shown as 15 amp - BUT as 5 amp in the owner manual. Since it draws 5 amp normally, a 15 amp would be a better choice. Which number fuse was it? Ony runs for a couple of seconds in position 2 if ECU does not see engine turning. Ok checked the fuse again for the fuel pump, i put a 15a in there. I turn the igntion in the 2 position and I do hear the Fuel Pump Humming. So that would lead me to believe its not the Fuel pump. The Fuel Relay would be my next choice. Now is the Fuel Relay next to the fuse box and the washer reservoir (little blk box with 2 plugs going into it) under the hood or is it suppose to be under the passenger kick board on the ecu? Any ideas?
Behind the engine bay fuse box. Black and only one coil is being used although if you take off the cover you'll find two. So you have a comparison on the circuit board to look at. The 5A fuse IS THE RIGHT amperage so watch yourself or you'll be roasting chestnuts on an open fire.
Now after a couple hours went back out engine started right away. Turned it off then turn the ignition to the 2nd position and let the fuel pump prime, could hear the humming. I waited until it stopped then turned the igniton it would crank but not start. turned it to the 2nd position again and i dont hear the fuel pump. does this mean its the fuel pump? Also tried to pull the electrical plugs on the fuel pump off there are 2 having a hard time getting those off any ideas? Im lost..............
itīs look like you have a CPS (CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR PROBLEM)
Itīs located on transmisson housing, when this happens try to shake it or pullig it a bit , see whatīs happen, also there is a ignition module which is located some where at the engine compartment.

No, it means you have fuel pressure, and you can check it with pressure gauge on the fuel rail on passenger side. If no spark, it won't start. On 98 D1, there is no distributor, so no iginition module. The ECU controls the coil pack. The ECU is driven by the crank shaft position sensor. Check for spark with a plug.
is there a step by step way to check this with pics? if no pressure what would be the cause? if pressure then what would be the cause? need help, and of course thank you all fo your responses
Test point looks like a tire valve on the fuel rail. Attach a gauge and should read 32-34 when pump running. As far as the 5 amp issue, the schematic shows a higher value, does not match owenr manual. Now mine reads right at 5 amps when pump is running. So 5 amps won't cover it IMHO.
